The 2024 pick is top 20 protected so yes we will have our 1st rounder this year.

Montreal Canadiens Acquire:
Sean Monahan

Return:
2025 1st round pick (CGY)

- DEDDIE[Conditional]*
*Conditions: 1. If CGY’s 2024 1st round pick is between 20 and 32, MTL can take that pick instead.

Scenario: In the event CGY receives FLA’s 2025 1st round pick (From the Tkachuk trade):
1. If both CGY AND FLA’s picks are NOT top 10, MTL will receive the better of the CGY and FLA 2025 1st round picks. Result: TBD

2. If CGY’s pick is top 10, AND FLA’s pick is NOT top 10, MTL receives FLA’s pick. Result: TBD

Have to think that Markstrom stole at least 10 ponts this year. Calgary could be getting a pretty decent pick next year.

Watched the eclipse from our rooftop here in Sayulita. Not the full blackout like Mazatlan, but still pretty spectacular.

Cool! Hope you had a tequila in hand to take it all in!

Do the Flames beat the Sharks, Kings, or Ducks this week? The Ducks is the back end of a B2B.

Why have people been bringing this up recently? It's been 99% a sure thing for months now. They just murdered Calgary's most famous tree yesterday, so there's no turning back now.

Kinda liking Kuzmenko. What do you think he'd sign for if Conny decides to keep him?

9 goals -10 he’s an exciting player but needs to work on his defensive side of the game.

Bet he’d make one hell of a tennis player!

Sorry guys, down in Palm Desert. That forever snow killed me! I’ll be on my feet this weekend when I’m back in Calgary.

Ideally, they trade both Kuzmenko and Sharangovich this offseason. But the Flames are gonna Flames, so they both probably get some absurd number and then disappear into the ether.

Absolutely no pressure for Conroy to sign either of these guys. This year has been quite the transition year trading most of our core. Next year will be the tell tale for both guys. If they both trend toward having 30 goals you have something here. If their ask isnt outrageous on both term & $$$ (im thinking 4-6 years @ $5-$6.0 per) extend them. Otherwise if they want too much $$$ we are getting some extra 1st round picks. If they dont perform, Conroy can deal with them accordingly, ie. short term 1-2 year deals at way lower cost. Easy peasy.

Keeping them both for next year just ensures more mediocrity for the future. Having them both score 30 next year doesn’t help the Flames. The team needs 2-3 years drafting in the top 5.

The Flames don't have any stars on the NHL roster and none of the prospects are projected to be stars either. They also probably won't get one in the draft this year either unless they win the lottery.

Scoring 30 each isn’t that bad for tanking if they’re out there for 50 goals against each.

Where would the Flames be drafting this year if the Flames had gotten an extra pick or prospect instead of Sharangovich and Kuzmenko?

There have been at least 10 games that the Flames won because of Sharangovich and/or Kuzmenko. Sure, someone else would've been in those spots if they weren't here, but probably wouldn't have been as successful. I think it's reasonable to throw out that the Flames would have 10 fewer points without them in the lineup, which is a top 5 pick.

I can understand the argument for extending Sharangovich, but Kuzmenko is already an old and makes no sense to bring back next season.

Nothing wrong with the ole Pump and Dump at the trade deadline.
You go from one side of the fence to the other in milliseconds.

Hanifin resigns in Vegas 8 year $7.35 million AAV for a total of $58.8 million. Guess he really didnt want to stay after having his reported contract resinded earlier in the year.

What? I've had the same opinion since the Sharangovich trade. I complained when they traded for him and complained again when they added Kuzmenko. The team needs to willing to be bad if they want to be better than mediocre.

What's the upside of waiting until the deadline? Best case scenario is Kuzmenko has 30 at the deadline and they flip him for a pick in the 20s. But if he has 30 at the deadline, that increases the chances the Flames are having another mediocre year and not drafting in the to 5. The Sharks are in a much better spot as an organization than the Flames are right now.

Sharks have also been in the bottom of the league longer than the Flames, it’s no wonder they might surface faster. I was referring to your sign Hanifin, keep the team together, Flames are close to being a contender take that you were talking not so long ago. Now that the writings on the wall you’ve changed that take all together. Trading Kuzmenko, Mangiapani, Markstrom and any other 28+ player should be a priority for Conroy but only when the offers are right. Just shipping them out so we can be a crappier team all year isn’t the way to build a team. Who’s going to put fans in the seats if he ships everyone that can score out this off season just to get a top 5 pick? Do you want to watch a barely NHL calibre team for the next 2-3 years? I agree we need some stars on this team but trading everyone that can score goals this off season isn’t the way to do it.

I would much rather hold onto Sharan and Kuz through the rebuild and sell Coleman, Kadri, and Mange. The latter are all much to responisble in the Dzone.

Its nice to have a guy that makes you pay attention when the puck is on his stick, Kuz does that.

Never said they were close to being a contender. I said the Flames will refuse to do a proper rebuild so it made sense for them to resign Hanifin since they're going to commit to being mediocre and he'd give them a shot at that 3rd spot in the division.

I'd much rather watch the Flames dress an AHL team for the next 2-3 years than watch mediocrity for another 20. The Avs, Oilers, and Lightning were awful for a few years and now are probably the three most fun teams to watch. Matthews wasn't an 8th overall pick. The Blackhawks are setup to be a juggernaut soon, especially if they can get in one more year at the bottom of the standings.

There's also the fact that if the Flames are mediocre next year, they'll lose their first round pick.

Ok. I’m mistaken but I thought it was resign Hanifin cause we’ll never get a player as good as him with what he brings back?
