I was chastised here last year when I suggested the Isles should trade Sorokin for some forward help. They couldn't score last year, they still couldn't score this year...all the while the #1 goalie was sitting on the bench. |

Imagine if NYI accepted the offer of Nylander for Pageau + Wahlstrom. Might have been a different season for them. They do need more upfront skill and gamebreaking ability.
It's going to be really awkward with Sorokin. His summer will be full of questions...the new coach doesn't trust me. I lost my #1 job. But my pricey 8-year contract kicks in next season. Where do I stand? A bold move would be to trade Sorokin before his 8-year contract (and NMC) kicks in. LA has no goalies under contract next season. Sorokin for Byfield? NYI gets cap space to invest elsewhere.

The Leafs would never ever going to do a trade like that. |

Sorokin + Pageau for Byfield? Maybe LA throws in Nylander that they acquire from Toronto? Just channeling Ek and throwing stuff out there. - HockeyBuzzed
No way the Isles get this unless they include the UFA rights to Clutterbuck |

Wouldn't even be considered unless you're also taking Dubois and Blake with him, too... |

Leafs have already sampled Samsonov so might as well move onto comrade Sorokin. |

Don't forget that if you think Sorokin flames out as nothing more than an average starter, then dumping him now, means you get $8.5M of cap space to re-use on someone else. Maybe they can sign Reinhart or Guenztel or Marchessault to be top line center? |

It is a joke about how Eklund listed five of his top UFA centers and none of them play center exclusively or even at all in some cases. |
