Watch out Chicago… there’s a Vulture on the way. Coming up tomorrow in the Second City, league governor’s from the NHL will discuss Jim Balsillie’s plan to acquire the Phoenix Coyotes and move them to Hamilton, Ontario. The only reason this meeting is happening is because of the bankruptcy court judge’s cajoling. The BlackBerry boss will be questioned about his plans for Copps Coliseum, the proposed new home of the franchise.
In this same session, there will also be a presentation of the plans from the newest suitor for the beleaguered Phoenix franchise. Ice Edge Holdings will share their ideas, including potentially playing some regular season and playoff games in Saskatoon… a unique idea to say the least.
You can’t look at that idea as anything but an exit plan should things not turn around in the desert. Several reports have this group selling this plan to Winnipeg and Halifax as well. If I'm a Phoenix fan, I don't like this at all, even if it may make some business sense.
So the drama continues… moving from a court room in the desert to a board room in the Windy City…
