San Jose and Phoenix hit the ice again tonight, and the Sharks look to string two wins together for only the second time this season. Expect some of the intensity to carry over from Saturday night's game, and the Coyotes are a scrappy bunch that will be looking to even up the two-game set and trying to send a message for another meeting between the teams Thurdsay night in Phoenix.
It's funny how fate plays a hand in hockey moments so many different hockey moments. Whether it's Gretzky becoming the NHL's all-time scoring leader against the Oilers in Edmonton, or Roenick scoring his 500th against the Coyotes, the stars find a way to align themselves when big moments arrive.
Just as I was writing the first part of this blog I had the NHL Network on, recapping the Pittsburgh Penguins' second Stanley Cup victory - a four-game sweep over the Chicago Blackhawks in 1992. They showed a few clips of postgame interviews with Mario Lemieux and Mike Keenan, and then showed a little clip of Roenick answering questions in the locker room. His words were pretty interesting.
"I got a taste for it, and that taste is never going to go away," Roenick said. "I'm going to win this thing one of these years."
It's funny, but here we are 15 years later and JR is still going. After all the battles he's still contributing, facing one of his best chances to win a Cup. Just thought it was interesting timing, especially considering this past weekend and the great night he had Saturday.
It should be a good one tonight, and join me immediately after the game for the first Sharks Talkcast. We'll have a show every Monday and Wednesday at 10 p.m. pacific time, and Friday mornings at 10 a.m. Come on by and share your thoughts on the game, the Sharks, and anything else you want to discuss. We're going to go for an hour, from 10 to 11, but if we get rolling it could just keep going so check it out.
You can access the talkcast right here, and you can choose to either listen to the live stream or join the conversation by calling 724-444-7444 and entering the talkcast ID number 74909. Thanks everybody, enjoy the game, and we'll talk to you later tonight.
