A bushel of rumours from all corners of the NHL.... |

Last night the Lightning crushed a VERY good Hurricane team for the second time in a week, and today Vinny LeCavalier sits atop the league's scorers. Vinny is a talent I feel not enough people recognize. At his best, Vinny stands above anyone, and right now he is clearly the best player in the NHL. Vinny can skate like the wind and carry a team. Last night's hat was the stuff legends are made of.
The other thing about Vinny is he is a highly marketable guy. Very personable and cordial. I do believe that were Vinny playing for a more traditional market team he would be making a killing on endorsements. And it brings up an interesting factor.
With the max salary set in the new CBA at 20% of the cap, and with certain players, like Vinny, able to get the max were they to try the open market, at what point will endorsement deals start to become a factor?
Who's to say that Nike doesn't go to Ovechkin and tell him they will sign a $10million deal with him IF he chooses to play in Chicago, New York, Toronto or LA? If Ovechkin can make the max in three cities, why wouldn't he look to the endorsements to tip the scale?
In the Rumour Mill:
That same Lightning team is "very hot" on Andrew Raycroft according to several sources today...(e3)
The Blues may be looking to move a d-man and I am hearing that Buffalo could be the possible partner. I have heard Max Afinogenov as a player the Blues covet, and could it be possible that the Sabres could grab back Jay McKee? There is some smoke behind this, and it also makes some real sense.
The Rangers are still "quietly" talking with the Coyotes regarding a possible d-man. A source has told me that it "all depends on where the Rangers find themselves come the deadline" so don't look for this to happen tomorrow. Jovo and Morris are both candidates.
The Ducks have been scouting the Leafs like crazy. I am told this goes back to the rumours from two weeks back. The Coyotes and Leafs apparently "have a deal they could pull at any time on the Leafs choosing."
I also believe that with the parting of Mr. Stability, Doug Armstrong, in Dallas, and the bringing in of Brett Hull the Stars will be moving some key players sooner than later...The Bruins are already rumoured to be in discussions regarding a d-man.
The Thrashers and Hossa may be getting a bit closer to an extension according to a few sources as well...
I will also discuss these and more during today's internet radio show, so feel free to call in at 4pm.
more to come.......
