In a goaltending duel in OT the veteran Shanahan beat Marty from the slot. A goal scorers goal ended a 0-0 tie in a chess match game (first time ever the Devils and Rangers play to a 0-0 tie after 3 periods) showcases many good saves by both goalies the game was even paced despite the box score.
"We have to look at the positives," said Elias. "We had something special going. To get a point in 10 games in a row that's great. We've just got to let it go."
Right, however I thought he was not much of a factor tonight with only one shot on goal. I did like how the Devils played much bigger tonight taking on the body and banging more, something I think they need to keep up. Many chances, but not too many getting on goal with Lundqvist making only 17 saves. We need more shots on goal.
I did not notice the complacency that was shown for a few games but a cautious few minutes in the third. Rupp dressed for Vishnevski as for the first time in four games we dressed six dmen instead of seven. A curious move as I thought Rupp was not much of a factor in my opinion.
As Elias said, let it go and move on. Hey, we are still in first in the Atlantic so this streak has paid dividends.
Caps again tomorrow night.
Food for thought…
In my previous blog an interesting question arose; who would you rather have on your team: Parise or Getzlaf?
Now in my biased opinion Id rather have Parise. I also think that it could depend on the team but Parise is a more dynamic player. Getzlaf is a power forward that can score but Parise can contribute in many other ways.
Thoughts?
This day in hockey history…
1987 - Robbie Ftorek became the first American to be named coach of the L.A. Kings. He was the 15th coach in club history, replacing Mike Murphy. Ftorek lost his first game, 2-1 in New Jersey.
