The New Jersey Devils western Canada tour started off with a disappointing effort against the Vancouver Canucks. After a two day rest, they found themselves looking for redemption and in the first period, they were quickly down 1-0 on a Joni Pitkanen goal. The Oilers seemed to have the control of the game in the first period.

Second period, the Devils started to chip away at the Oilers by peppering the Edmonton goalie numerous shots on net by taking advantage of the Oilers’ penalties. Garon was able to diffuse the momentum and keep the Oilers’ lead and the frustration of not scoring on this road trip started to mount. But in the 3rd period, the Devils were able to strike it rich.

Patrik Elias scored with five minutes into the third period to break the ice. Only thirty five seconds later, Brian Gionta scored the eventual game winner and John Madden added the empty net. Devils win 3-1.
