On Friday, Julie and I did our predictions for the coming calendar year, and they are as follows...let's hear your predictions for the upcoming year, and when December 2008 comes to a close we will see how well we all did.
For those of you who missed the Talkcast, here are my 5 and Julie's 5.
Ek's 5.
1. The Return of the Bench Clearing Brawl. We will see one in the next calendar year.
2. The Nets will be widened.
3. The Winter Classic will return to Buffalo and become a New Year's Day event similar to the Lions on Thanksgiving Day. Other teams will visit Buffalo each year. This does not mean that a second Ice Bowl in a rotating city will not occur...like the doubleheader game. I also feel that we will see NHL outdoor games in Toronto, PA, and Michigan scheduled.
4. At least five current RFA's will sign deals ten years or greater
5. The Stanley Cup will be raised by a Canadian team.
Julie's 5.
1. Four teams will start next year overseas.
2. Washington, Philly, Chicago, and Phoenix will all make the playoffs.
3. Detroit will be knocked out in the first round (probably by Chicago)
4. Ovechkin will sign a ten year deal.
5. Carrie Underwood will date and NHL player by the end of 2008 (stone cold lock)
I want to thank the fine folks of Buffalo for all sending in their request that we visit their tailgate party's. We have decided upon 5! Julie and I will be doing a roving talkcast on Tuesday morning and giving you all a great taste of the atmosphere outside the Winter Classic. We had over 30 entries, check your emails to see if we emailed you as one of our stops, and we will work out the details.
Also if we see a sign in your car saying, "I want a hockeybuzz hat!" we will do our best to get you a limited edition hockey buzz knit hat as seen below.
Rumours...
Hot and heavy on the Blue Jacket and Rangers front. Prucha looks to be headed to Columbus (e4) and I am told that Montoya is possible as well. (yes it is surprising, given Pascal's year)
It is still uncertain who is heading the other way, although Dan Fritche I am told could be part of a good sized package.
Also the Leafs are once again in "heavy talks" that could see Raycroft plus a "substantial player" heading to a western team...
More on these later, plus the countdown continues...
