Ansar Khan has some speculation regarding Ville Husso (paywall) in terms of health for next year. This adds an interesting twist to some of the concerns regarding next year’s team from what many of you have pondered.

It’s impossible to write this without sounding cruel, but a departure from Husso isn’t something that many of you would panic about. There would still likely need to be signs of significant improvement from Cossa (much better 2nd half) with Lyon still in the pack and a possible extension for Reimer has been discussed.

In terms of former net minders in the system, Filip Larsson is returning to North America, but heading toward Pittsburgh. The once highly touted prospect has had a bit of a renaissance in Europe and will have an opportunity to step into the NHL.

There are a heavy rotation of perspective articles regarding Tampa Bay, and specifically Steven Stamkos. At last check the team had 18 forwards listed on the roster and about 10m in cap space for next season. Unless something really went sour, it feels doubtful that Stamkos would want to move on and would make some concessions. Washington’s first round exit doesn’t necessarily feel overwhelming as Ovechkin’s chase of the goal scoring record is something that has gotten into the 41 goal area. Even with a really rough start, Ovi hit 31 goals and this journey is one that more than pacifies a fan base for now.

At some point, something is going to have to give in terms of teams and cap space. Not all of the bonuses have been calculated, and a very important off season awaits Toronto in particular. Listed as having 13 players signed and 10m in cap space you can see the issues at play. A first round exit may make for more than just roster changes.

This brings me to a final point. It feels like the trade market and internal cap and frustration issues is going to make for a much more lively off season than the free agent market. Couturier has changed agents after some healthy scratches that made the player rather unhappy (his former agent as well). Though just 2 years in to an extension, this seems to be an odd move to say the least. (Timing-wise for certain).

So, it’s your turn. What teams are you looking at that will have to make a dramatic change? The cap hasn’t kept up at the optimistic pace projected 5 to 6 years ago. Utah will be working overtime to get the seats filled and more broadcast coverage will be on the way. Let me know your thoughts on where you, as a GM, may be looking in terms of teams who need to move on from some players.
