RUMOURS: Jokinen to the Sharks (e3) Penguins Interested in Jay McKee...

According to Multiple sources a deal that could send two major players and a prospect from San Jose to Florida for Olli Jokinen is being tossed around. I really do question the logic in trading Jokinen, but if there is one thing I've learned this year (besides how to spell Olli) it is that the Panthers are being extremely agressive and outward about this. It really is hard to imagine him NOT being moved at this point.

Another source close to another situation is telling me that there is a belief out there that Jay McKee may either be traded to, or get picked up on, re-entry waivers by the Penguins if he is in position to be grabbed. (Important to note that Jay is not even on Waivers as of now...and this could be a straight out trade...I am hearing both theories)

I would think this would be a stellar move for the Penguins who would get a shot blocker who brings the same sorts of leadership qualities and playoff that Gary Roberts brought them last season. The Penguins also have an interest in Peca, as do the Minnesota Wild (who also are in the Jokinen sweeps)

A few people are telling me that the waiver wire is a strategy that we may see some more of over the next 72 hours. Trades being set-up through waivers.

One thing that is certain...everything is very chaotic right now.

Every source is anxious and tempers are quite short at teams...

from earlier today..

GAGNE DONE

Gagne is done for the season. Really stinks for Simone, but it is the right move.

PECA, FEDOTENKO, GRATTON

Peca to Ottawa was a hot rumour all summer long...it is back

Fedotenko to Detroit or Nashville is gaining momentum.

Gratton to Buffalo is another rumour I am hearing. Little has been made of the fact that beyond signing Campbell, the Sabres biggest need I have been told is a Power Forward....

The GM meetings are breaking up today. And from all indications they are breaking up early. soon actually. Maybe we will see a deal of sorts before they they all get on their respective airplanes and zip home to their offices, pour another cup of coffee, and tonight all hell breaks loose!

(well we can at least hope so right?)

If only it were that easy.

The fact is, from talking to everyone this morning, the returns are still too low on the big guys.

The Hossa situation is perhaps the muddiest of all.

There is even a rumour out there today started by a "supposed" facebook page (that my facebook expert is convinced is a fake) where Valterri Filppula has announced he was traded to Atlanta.

There is little doubt that Atlanta would do that deal for Hossa in a second.

However, according to a source, the new favorite may indeed be Boston....and another source is telling me that Montreal has come in FAR too low.

I am not convinced that Montreal isn't shifting their energies to Sundin.

On the Sundin front, rumours are swirling regarding Stajan and Sundin heading to Anaheim, but my sources are telling me that although Anaheim would demand a player that would be around for awhile, it isn't Stajan.

I am curious if a defenseman would be going back to Toronto from Anaheim, because I do believe that Anaheim is VERY much in the running for Rob Blake.

I also am hearing that a deal with the NY Rangers and Boyle is still very much on the table despite beliefs that Boyle may be close to re-signing.

Meanwhile, the Brian Campbell talks are "where they are" leading me to start to think that Campbell could be this year's Smyth...going right to the end.

On a non-trade front a reliable source told me that Mattias Norstrom is likely NOT returning to the NHL next season and will opt for Europe.

COMING FEBRUARY 26, 2008: AND STREAMING TO THE ENTIRE WORLD (NOT JUST CANADA)...
THE HOCKYBUZZ TRADE DEADLINE LIVE VIDEO PODCAST

The Show will be hosted by Eklund, Kevin Lee, Andy Strickland and many more from Hockeybuzz. We will be not only reporting our own rumours/trades we are hearing, but commenting instantly on whatever is being reported by TSN, Sportsnet, The Score, The Team Websites, etc are reporting. We are also going to be scanning all the other major team and hockey websites. Basically, we want to be your one stop spot for information from everywhere.

The reason we have to limit the streams to Season Ticket Holders is really simple. Many of you know that you often get cut out of other video streams due to too many users...Nothing can be more aggravating...The reason for you getting shut out is that streaming is very expensive. We literally have to pay by the user and by the hour. This show will run from 9:30 am until at least 4 pm. We can truly only afford 10,000 streams and feel that the people who help support the site should get this benefit. But don't worry... if you aren't a season ticket holder or you can't stream the show, we will be reporting the exact same news instantly on a newly designed front page for the site designed to take on the massive amounts of traffic. So we are gearing up.
