PITTSBURGH: Talking to various sources this morning I have to say that I am getting more and more intrigued by this upcoming draft. It will be a draft to remember from all preliminary reports. There is little doubt that some major deals are being discussed. Teams looking to make MAJOR moves include San Jose, Chicago, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Edmonton, Carolina, Vancouver, Columbus, and LA.
"What we are seeing is the lst and final shift from the old NHL to the new NHL," a source said via email, "There is some serious talent out there in this draft especially among solid puck-moving d-men. All the while there is a serious lack of puck moving D-Men available UFA."
As you know I don't add players to the RUMOUR CHART while they are still playing, so therefore the Wings and Penguins players aren't on the Chart, but let me tell you the Penguins in particular have some guys that will be intriguing. Some of the most intriguing players in fact,
UPDATED: I am following a lead on a possible LeCavalier deal...stay tuned for that!
The Sharks and Sens are once again talking and I am hearing it is quite possible the Hawks are involved with that one.
Although some will tell you that talks with the Sharks and Brian Campbell are progressing, many will tell you they are cordial but not progressing monitarily.
Enter Olli Jokinen. According to sources, Olli is the key target of the Sabres and the Flames, but don't count out the Rangers and even possibly...the Predators or the Penguins.
The coaching carousel is also bound to play out this week. My bets are on Quenneville in San Jose and Ron Wilson in Atlanta. I was also told (off the record) the favorite for the Senators coaching job, and it is pretty surprising. Another meeting may be scheduled this week, and I expect there to be a new Sens coach by this time next week. I will fill in the blanks in the next day or so....
More rumours I am sure after I touch base with some folks at the morning skates.
