Per the Philadelphia Daily News, the Flyers and Randy Jones have
come to terms on a two-year contract.
Jones' deal will entail a $2.75 million cap hit, paying the defenseman $2.5 million in 2008-09 and $3 million the following season. Jones, who turns 28 on July 23, will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the deal.
The team also informed Jason Smith that it will not pursue re-signing him. The Flyers currently have eight defenseman signed to the NHL roster in Kimmo Timonen, Braydon Coburn, Jones, Derian Hatcher, Steve Eminger, Ossi Väänänen, Lasse Kukkonen and Ryan Parent. Nate Guenin is also a candidate to compete for an NHL job in camp.
The probable AHL lineup includes Oskars Bartulis, Michael Ratchuk, Tim Ramholt, Danny Syvret, Sean Curry and Patrik Hersley.
