Her helicopter landed at Lincoln Financial Field (across the street where the Eagles play) and they whisked her in. She is a "rockstar" of sorts right now. To that there is no doubt. Secret Service everwhere. Elevators closed, hallways closed, etc.

Not your norm for the Wachovia Center Press box...

I refuse to write politics, but I will write about what I hate the most about this process. The fact that the media and all of us by association have turned politics into a sport.

And in being a sport the media thrives on pitting side against side and the hatred within the country and the world grows larger while we lose a part of our humanity in the process.

Keith Oberman has the perfect job. A former sportscaster covering politics...

Politics are NOT sports. Sports are Games. Politics are real. What Ovechkin does may make you happier or sad, but it doesn't affect the planet and your kids future...and their kids. Politics are real, and yet they've been marginalized. I heard a reporter the other day ask the question, "Will Obama have to throw away his "Plans for better healthcare" in order to "even the score on the scoresheets." This isn't pulling your goalie to get an advantage. This is healthcare. SERIOUSLY!

So I won't say whether Sarah "hit one out of the park," "intimidated her opponent," or "clinched" anything...Politics has become sports, and I will not let sports become politics.

However last night I was around Sarah Palin and I will say as a person, she impressed me..She was very sharp, endearing, personable and for the purposes of this story, into hockey.

I am not going to slam Ed Snider for this. Sarah Palin is VERY public figure and whatever her beliefs, she does love OUR sport. She is a person and a "hockey mom." The Flyers held a contest where people sent in stories about their hockey moms...It was a great contest where a lot of people wrote a lot of great things about their mother...None of that is "terrible."

In the end, part of me can't help but like the fact that someone this important has ties to our sport in America. Having spent countless hours defending hockey to Americans over the years all this publicity, good and bad, has sure knocked hockey into the mainstream. CNN, MSNBC, Jay Leno and the rest...

What are your thoughts?

From a source via email...

"The Senators are being very aggressive in an attempt to ad grab some more offense, and they see Gaborik as a real opportunity."

Last week the Senators were rumoured to be having discussions with Sundin as well. The obvious question for you Senators fans is "what are you willing to give up for Gaborik on the trade front?"

The Maple Leafs are rumoured to be in discussions with Phoenix in an attempt to land more first round draft picks for the upcoming draft. At first I balked at this possibility, but more people today have informed me that these talks have gone on and have been going on for the better parts of two months...
