This won't come as a surprise but as a disappointment to all you Garth-heads in Buffalo ... Danny Briere did not make the trip.
He continues to skate and rehab his left groin but told me today he is still too sore to play. He took himself off the trip. Don't expect him Saturday at home against Phoenix, either. I think the earliest we see Briere back in the lineup will be Monday against Dallas.
“It’s improving every day but at a very slow pace," Briere said. This is taking a long time. It’s a slow process. It’s an injury where if you try to come back too quick, it just keeps getting worse. I’m skating, but I know my limits and how far I can push it.”
Forget about Ossi Vaananen, as well. He is not expected to play Friday at Buffalo and is questionable, at best, for Saturday. Looks like Monday for him, as well. There is concern from Vaananen whether the stitches in his right hand have fully healed.

Anyone notice the Flyers have as many shorthanded goals - 8 - as the Devils have power play goals? Now if I'm the Devils, that is very embarrassing.
The Flyers have become a very dangerous club when shorthanded and Simon Gagne has four of those eight goals. For a closer look at Gagne and this crew, here's my story on CSNPhilly.com:

BTW: Derian Hatcher flew with the team to Buffalo just to be with the guys. Hatcher, who is on LTI with right knee problems, is not even skating. He can't. The knee is that bad once he puts on skates. He's fine until he starts skating.
