One of the reasons hockey doesn't draw betting action, the kind that would warrant full disclosure of injuries, etc., is that it is a difficult game to figure out, in terms of bets.
Perhaps more than any other sport, weird things happen in hockey games.
Even so, as I look at the Flyers with a four-game win streak preparing to face the amazingly, slumping Dallas Stars tomorrow at the WAC, one stat stands out. The Stars are 1-5 in three-goal games.
That means, the action should be on the Flyers tomorrow to extend their win streak to five games because the Flyers average 3.42 goals a game. This looks like a can't-miss bet for me.
BTW: Danny Briere (left groin pull) won't play. He sounded about as discouraged as I have heard him this morning, describing the lack of "improvement."
Now, the good news is, unlike other years when Peter Forsberg would be out of the lineup, the Flyers are pretty good at missing their top centerman. They are 8-2-1 during the 11 games (2 separate injuries) Briere has missed this season.
And as we approach the quarter mark of the season, Jeff Carter, who can be anything he wants on the given his immense desire when he decides to make a difference, is pace for a 60 goal season.
No one expects 60 from Carts, but I think 35 is reasonable to expect as this point, given the way he is playing and 40 is a target he should shoot for. He had a career-high 29 last season.
Hey, that's Sean Avery's pix in my blog! Guess they couldn't find an ice girl from Waco, huh?
