Preview (8:00 AM, EST)
The Flyers (11-6-4) will look for their seventh straight victory today when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes (11-10-2) at the Wachovia Center in the back half of the holiday home-and-home set. Martin Biron will be back in goal for the Flyers after being rested on Wednesday night's 3-1 victory. Today's game will also mark the much-anticipated debut of the Flyers new retro third jerseys.
Simon Gagne, who has recorded points in nine straight games (5 G, 11 A) and in 18 of the 20 games he's played this season, will look to extend his streak.
The Flyers will likely go with the same lineup they used on Wednesday. Daniel Briere (groin) is close to returning but is doubtful for today.
On Wednesday, the Flyers put together a tremendous defensive effort in the first period and did an excellent job of protecting a third-period lead. If the team can muster a similar five-on-five effort today, they've got a good shot at coming away with another two points. Philadelphia has also been outstanding on the penalty kill (now ranked 3rd in the NHL), while Carolina is 1-for-26 on the power play in the past six games.
