No Sundin in Philly, Gaborik a Thrasher Soon? more... |

So various sources are reporting the Flyers are out of the Sundin sweeps, partially due to cap space, but according to a close source, "Mostly due to team chemistry and the Flyers being a very hot team right now."
As has always been stated, Paul Holmgren has said numerous times, including on my TV show this past weekend in Philly, that you "Have to look at" someone like Sundin. He is still an elite player and in this day and age it is harder and harder to improve via trade or free agency.
The fact remains, with the exception of Vancouver, cap space is tight everywhere, but teams have always and will always find ways. "Cap Space" is always there to be found if you really want to find it. GMs have flat out told me that they will say, "It is too hard to make this deal because of cap space" as the great excuse if the player just doesn't want to come there.
In the end there are teams that will gladly take a top six forward off of your hands and GMs that will justify it by saying "Look at it like a trade." This happened when JR (who was a star still in Philly) was sent to LA and the Flyers signed Forsberg. Although the Kings gave up nothing for JR, the Flyers got Foppa.
Gaborik and Atlanta
Interesting rumours swirling today that the Thrashers are looking at a trade to bring Gaborik to Atlanta. It is certainly interesting and the Thrashers, who don't want to trade Kovalchuk, may need to bring in a talent like Gaborik to keep Kovalchuk interested in remaining a Thrasher.
Again, I cant stress enough the difference between Gaborik and Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk wants to stay where he is and is proud to be a Thrasher.
Chasing today...
Avery...including some NHL veterans who are very upset with the way the Dallas Stars management and especially the players have acted publicly in regards to Avery in the past weeks.
