Congrats to the Vancouver Fans!
As we have said all along nothing should surprise us in this saga, and as I have also said Gillis and various players on the Canucks have been relentless.
Honestly, I feel the best team won this...and I think Rangers fans need to shift their thinking no to fixing the defense, because as great a pickup as Mats would have been, the D is what this team needs.
About an hour ago I heard the Rangers deal with the Dallas Stars fell apart....I didn't make much of it. Apparently I should have.
Very curious to dig deeper into this sudden shift...
In the end it was about the money.
As Darren Dreger on TSN just said properly, "Mats and JP Barry gave the Rangers EVERY opportunity to get the number up, but the Rangers couldn't get it over 5. and the lowest offer that came in per year was 7.5."
Today I heard about two trades that were attempted. One with the Blue Jackets and one with Dallas. The BJs wanted Dubinsky.
A team owner told me an hour and a half ago that he heard from a good source that the Stars pulled out of deal that would have sent Avery to the NY Rangers for Rosival +. This was the ESPN rumoured deal from earlier in the week. I dismissed it, but apparently it was very much on the table.

Yes, and add Jason Spezza to the list of players...I believe based on what I hear that there are two teams now who are working on a deal for Spezza.
Do not rule out Jay Bo to the NY Rangers now.
Also, Jay Bo will be heavily pursued in Montreal as well...who I am told was in this until as late as three days ago.
Also, Gaborik being healthy, the Rangers and Canadiens will be very much in that as well.
