The Flyers are in desperate need of some good news after their inept performance so far on this Western Conference road swing.

GM Paul Holmgren told me today that Danny Briere will be worked very hard at practice in Vancouver this morning with the intent of trying to get the center back into the lineup by this weekend. That means LA or Anaheim.

I really thought that sending Ryan Parent down to the Phantoms was intended to get him a conditioning rehab and then try to move him to the NHL roster with a couple of moves to lose cap money, but Holmgren says Parent is staying with the Phantoms.

I am afraid Ryan Parent is about to become this year's Denis Gauthier - a victim of the cap. Sad thing is, I feel a healthy Parent is better than either Lasse Kukkonen or Andrew Alberts.
