WRAPUP
Raise your hand if you thought the Flyers had a snowball's chance in hell of winning today after the Bruins took a 3-1 lead to the locker room following the first period. Over the course of the season, they've been a pretty resilient club when trailing in games. But today's comeback victory was unexpected.
The formula for losing was in place: Boston has been lights out when playing with the lead. Flyers were playing without their captain and Scottie Upshall, while Braydon Coburn was just getting back after a particularly nasty bout with the flu. Martin Biron allowed a brutal third goal in the first period.
Today, along with Scott Hartnell and Antero Niittymaki it was the effort of the Flyers' foot soldiers - Glen Metropolit, Arron Ashan, Darroll Powe -- and rookie Claude Giroux who helped spur the turnaround in the game. The OT game winner by Randy Jones was a very lucky bounce on a shot that was going wide of the net but hit Andrew Ferrence and redirected past Manny Fernandez.
Apart from today's important win, the storyline emerging from this game will undoubtedly be whether the seeds of a goaltending controversy have officially been planted. Antero Niittymaki will get the start tomorrow afternoon, looking to continue his perfect record against Atlanta. If he plays well in that game, John Stevens may be hard pressed not to continue giving him the starts.
