Preview (8:30 AM, EST)
The Flyers (27-15-9) will look to complete a season-series sweep of the Atlanta Thrashers (18-30-5) today when they travel to Atlanta for a Sunday afternoon tilt. On the heels of yesterday's come-from-behind win in Boston, the Flyers can ill-afford to stumble against a Thrashers team they have dominated (28-3-1 all-time with three ties) and that has lost five of its last six games.
Antero Niittymaki will put his perfect career record (12-0-0) against the Thrashers on the line today at Philips Arena. He has posted a 1.76 goals against average and .938 save percentage against Atlanta.
As is the case in any situation where you play games on back-to-back days, the Flyers will need to keep their feet moving and their shifts short. The last time these clubs met, the Flyers had a commanding lead after two periods and had to rally late to prevent a potentially disastrous collapse.
Atlanta enters this game mired in a deep funk, both offensively and defensively. The club has been shut out or scored just a single goal in four of its last six contests. They've given up more shorthanded goals over that span than they've scored powerplay goals.
As of this writing, the playing status of flu-addled Mike Richards and Scottie Upshall is still not known for certain.
