It was a bizarre morning skate with Danny Briere saying he could play tonight against Montreal but that John Stevens wanted to wait on the decision to announce it until game time.
What we didn't know was that Kimmo Timonen would come off the ice and say he was still flu-ridden and couldn't play. That meant another d-man had to go in the lineup.
The delay on Briere was to see if Ossi Vaananen was claimed on waivers, which he was by Vancouver. Once that happened, Lasse Kukkonen had to dress in Ossi's place.
And in order to activate Briere and get his $6.5 million salary under the cap, the Flyers had to make one, more roster move and that move would likely have been to waive Kukkonen and not send Darroll Powe back to the Phantoms.
Complicated stuff but all related to the salary cap more than Briere's health.
