Briere Activated; Giroux Sent Down

When I saw the email I was stunned.

We all knew there would be consequences to getting Danny Briere's $6.5 mill back onto the Flyers' payroll.

I knew the Flyers were going to have to send Lasse Kukkonen back to the Phantoms, but with Claude Giroux? R U kidding me?

Then I saw why. Kimmo Timonen is still sick and won't play in Jersey tomorrow. That meant calling up Nate Guenin as the sixth defenseman.

Essentially, Giroux and Guenin are the same "cap" hit.

Which means, when Timonen is healthy, Guenin goes down, and Giroux comes back. Why not send Darroll Powe down?

For more on that, read my story on CSNPhilly.com.
