Simon Gagne wasn't happy today when I told him that the GMs had done nothing about head shots.

Gagne was a victim of a clean hit in 2007, but he has been hit with dirty shots since, and head shots remain an issue with him.

“Paul Kelly came out and said three-quarters of the players want the league to do something, it’s us playing and not them, and it’s easy to watch the game from upstairs,” Gagne told me on CSNPhilly.com today.

“Players see something is wrong with it. We asked for them to do something and they don’t want to do it.

“It’s too bad for them. I don’t understand it. If 75 percent of the players think something needs to be [done] on head shots, and it’s getting worse and worse every season, and right now they are there talking about fighting. If you take that way, you’ll see even more dirty head shots.

“It doesn’t sense what they are doing.”

I agree, it doesn't. The NHL competition committee will get this next and given that Flyers chairman Ed Snider sits on it, there's a chance something might get done. Snider understands this is an issue that has to be addressed and if the GMs don't want to tackle it, then others will.

I also chatted w/Paul Kelly on the subject.
