PREVIEW
Fresh off their 4-2 win over the Rangers at the Wachovia Center, the Flyers will face off again with the Blueshirts at Madison Square Garden. With a victory, the Flyers can pull seven or eight points ahead of the Rangers in the standings. Considering how well the Rangers started this season and the fact the team has picked up nine points via shootout victories, it's not hard to see why the Rangers are a desperate hockey team.
With today's game, the Flyers kick off a four-game road trip that will aso take the team to Buffalo, Pittsburgh and Detroit. The Flyers are 3-0-1 in their last four trips to Madison Square Garden.
Although a strong argument could be made for giving Martin Biron another start today, the Flyers already indicated that Antero Niittymaki will be in goal. Stephen Valiquette may get a shot at trying to continue his success against the Flyers.
For the Flyers to complete the home-and-home sweep, the team will need to continue doing many of the things they did yesterday -- getting balanced scoring, strong five-on-five play, clutch goaltending and playing with some physical intensity. They could stand to cut down on some of the scoring chances they allow and execute a little better on the powerplay, however.
