PREVIEW
Coming off a game in which they played just well enough to lose, the Flyers will need to do a better job at finishing off their chances tonight when they travel to Long Island to take on the Islanders. The Flyers need to show the type of hunger they displayed in beating the Penguins and Devils in succession. Despite having the worst record in the NHL, the Islanders can upset an unprepared opponent. They just proved that by shutting out the Red Wings, 2-0.
On paper, everything favors the Flyers. They've got much more firepower, much better depth and a history of recent success against the Islanders. Philly has won eight straight games against the Islanders, including all four games played this season. Meanwhile, Martin Biron has a personal 10-game winning streak against New York.
On Thursday night, Craig Anderson stonewalled the Flyers with outstanding goaltending. Anderson made 40 saves in Florida's 4-2 win at the Wachovia Center. Tonight, the Islanders' Joey MacDonald enters the game coming off a 42-save shutout win over Detroit. The Flyers will need to get back to consistently getting players going to the net and getting the screen, deflection and rebound goals that force opponents to chase the game.
