PREVIEW
Last night, the Flyers got away with a 20-minute effort. After playing a so-so first period and a horrendous middle stanza, the Flyers roared back for three goals in the third period and eventually defeated the New York Islanders in a shootout. Philadelphia was fortunate that the opponent was a young, overmatched team that has the worst record in the NHL because it does not know how to close out games.
The Flyers will need a much better effort than that tonight when they take on the Eastern Conference leading Boston Bruins at the Wachovia Center. Boston will be looking for a fourth straight road win over the Flyers and has pulled through their 6-9-4 mini-slump that started in February.
Antero Niittymaki will get the start in goal for the Flyers tonight. Also, the Flyers have made an emergency recall of forward Andreas Nodl (as they did on Thursday with defenseman Danny Syvret) from the Phantoms. He will replace Riley Cote, who injured a finger in his second-period fight last night. Leading Boston scorer Phil Kessel is expected to miss the game for the Bruins.
