Let's set the record straight.
James vanRiemsdyk will NOT suit up for the Flyers at any point this spring.
The game plan, Paul Holmgren told me tonight, was to get him some games with the Phantoms and his Flyer deal kicks in this summer.
Holmgren said it was "a stretch" to think JVR would play next season for the Flyers.
Two things. This kid needs to develop. He did not look good, I was told by people who watched the NCAA's against BU. And I thought he was unimpressive at the World Champs, especially against Canada, a game I felt he had to really step up.
Which may be what Holmgren alluded to earlier this winter when he said his development was lagging and that is why the club wanted him to come out of UNH last summer.
In other words, this won't be an overnight NHLer. He'll need time.
