PREVIEW
With two games left in the regular season, the Flyers still control their own destiny in determining whether they get home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Flyers will look to complete a season series sweep against the Islanders today when the club’s face off at the Nassau County Coliseum.
The last time the clubs met, the Flyers lollygagged for the first 40 minutes and had to rally in the third period, eventually prevailing in a shootout. Despite the Flyers’ 2-1 loss at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, the type of effort the club has shown in the last two games is more reflective of a club that deserves to be battling for home ice in the playoffs. Philadelphia can absolutely not afford to take the Islanders lightly again. The Isles may be young and short on depth, but they rarely fail to compete.
Martin Biron has owned the Islanders in recent seasons, reeling off 11 straight wins against the guys from Long Island. He’ll be back in goal for today’s tilt. As of yesterday, defenseman Ryan Parent was slated to try to give it a go today despite the groin injury he suffered in the team’s win over the Panthers on Tuesday.
