Still kinda numb from Saturday's stunning collapse of the Flyers in Game 6 vs. Pittsburgh.
The Morning Show wants John Stevens tarred and featured on Broad St.
Stevens' didn't lose that game - his players did. Yeah, he should have used his timeout and stopped Pittsburgh's momentum when it became a one-goal game but if you know Johnny, he never uses his timeouts until game's end unless there is a real emergency.
A couple things continue to bother me: the lack of discipline on the club to keep shifts short and stay with a game plan. The Flyers stopped getting pucks deep, tried to skate it up ice through a trap instead of dumping the puck - and that was only when they could get the puck out of their own end.
I said on CSNPhilly.com that the Flyers only recourse this summer is to put what little cap money they have toward either getting a stud d-man - Jay Bo _ or making a deal with Anaheim to get J-S Giguere. I don't see how the Flyers have the cash to sign a No. 1 goalie d-man without losing considerable salary via trades of guys who would have to be prompted to waive their no-trade clauses.
Claude Giroux can do a lot of things for the future of this franchise.
What he can't do is strap on the pads or add an intimidating presence at the blue line. GM Paul Holmgren needs to tell himself that every morning for the rest of the off-season.
One more thing.
The Flyers need a veteran in the room who can provide leadership when it counts most. That's what Doug Weight did for Carolina a few years ago. That's what Boston is hoping Mark Recchi does now.
Mike Richards wears the "C" but he's not an experienced captain and he proved this season he needs additional help.
Derian Hatcher isn't in the room and guys like Mike Knuble and Kimmo Timonen don't have the personality to act as the veteran bad ass.
When the Penguins came at the Flyers, they blinked.
Holmgren can't forget that, either.
That can't happen again.
