As The Goalie Turns in Flyerdom |
|

|
This week on CSNPhilly.com, I presented a 3-part series on the Flyers inability to find and identify a true No. 1 goalie via the draft, going on almost 3 decades now.
It's not something to be proud about but I am pretty convinced the organization is serious about doing something different to turn this around.
I spoke to the Flyers fan club the other night and told them that right now, the scenario I see unfolding, is the club making a deal at the NHL Draft for a veteran defenseman, who is either under contract past this July, or will become a free agent in July.
I think the FLyers will throw most of their available cap $$ into getting a d-man; then will trade two players, even asking someone to waive their no-trade, to gain additional dollars which I think will be used all-around, including re-signing Marty Biron at a favorable cap number and without a significant raise.
In all, I wrote close to 6,000 words on the Flyers goalie dilemma which is about 5,000 words more than I intended to write, but once I started getting into the whole draft thing, going back over the years and trying to be more current, the story got large enough that it could be covered in 3 parts, even 4 if the draft had been held this week where I could have gotten more outside feedback.
You can read all 3 parts in about a half-day ...
