According to a source, barring an absolute miracle, Heatley will be an Ottawa Senator this season. If I could rate a "non-deal" into the E-system, this would be an E5 folks.
Dany Heatley is a Sen right now, and the Senators are no closer to trading him than they were the day he announced he wanted out. In fact, they are much further from a deal than ever before.
It certainly isn't from a lack of not trying on Bryan Murray's part. The Sens have been calling everyone frantically over the last 24 hours. I have heard from three new teams now that were contacted by Ottawa in the last two days as the Sens are definitely not leaving any stone unturned.
It's essentially at the point where no one is willing to make the jump. The teams that can afford him are done (but for some tweaking) and the teams that have cap space aren't getting approval to go above that space. Bottom line. Heatley is a Senator for the immediate future...and NO one is happy about it.
Can it change over the next few days? Of course. But my source, who is tight with the situation, said he can't imagine a situation where it does change, and also said that while rumors of three-way deals right now are out there, they are more wishful thinking by the parties involved.
Speaking of unhappy, enter Dubinsky in NY. He could find himself forced into playing for 500k plus this season, and while offer sheets could be coming, Sather would surely match anything up to 3. I like Dubinsky and in my opinion Sather needs to really step up and get this done before the Rangers are looking at an unhappy player who may be their best center moving forward. The Rangers are far too thin up the middle to be playing this game.
Anton Babchuk to be dealt in the next 48 hours. According to many sources today the Hurricanes are close to trading Anton Babchuk and the believed team to grab the talented, right-handed D-man is Columbus. Other teams with an eye on Anton are Florida and the NYI.
The Canes are very much losing some firepower on D this season in Seidenberg (likely to the Isles or Sabres) and Babchuk.
Still finalizing my update to the Chart. Hoping for this afternoon.
