Just a couple of thoughts and quick notes as we prepare for Monday’s first preseason home game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

I haven’t heard word yet as to who will play in goal yet…but I’m hoping we’ll get a look at Manny Legace.

During practice sessions this weekend, Maxim Afinogenov was skating with Slava Kozlov and Todd White…the Thrashers' second line. Kovalchuk, Antropov and Little remained the first line formation. The third line saw Rich Peverley joining Marty Reasoner and Colby Armstrong.

Ondrej Pavelec had a good night in Tampa on Friday, despite the 2-1 overtime loss. Opie stopped 32 of the 34 Lightning shots that he faced… 29 of the 30 in regulation time. Paul Postma scored Atlanta’s only goal with an assist from Jim Slater. Martin St. Louis ended the game with a goal at the 4:34 of OT.

Atlanta surrendered 36 SOG in Thursday night’s 5-0 loss in Nashville... which means in 124:34 during two preseason games, they have allowed the opposition 70 shots on goal. I know, I know...its just preseason.

The Thrashers trimmed ten players from their training camp roster on Saturday. From the team website, Angelo Esposito, Riley Holzapfel, Rylan Kaip, Andrew Kozek, Jordan LaVallee, Brett Sterling, Anthony Stewart, Chad Denny and goaltender Peter Mannino have been reassigned to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL while Kevin Doell has been released from his tryout contract. Doell is under contract with the Wolves.

Levko Kopar…the Thrashers seventh-round pick in last June’s draft…scored a hat trick Friday night to help his Spokane Chiefs to a 6-3 win over the Prince George Cougars in WHL action. Kopar scored the Chiefs first three goals. Levko wasn’t done with the Cougars, however, as the very next night he scored again to tie the score at 1-1 in the third period. Spokane would then go on to gain the win in overtime. Last season, Kopar scored 23 goal and 36 assists in 71 games for the Chiefs.
