As promised, here are the high quality shots of the Penguins Stanley Cup Championship Ring!

Special thanks to Mouhammed Merhi over at Intergold Ltd for sending these to me. The rings were manufactured by Intergold and designed in consultation with Penguins owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle, general manager Ray Shero and head coach Dan Bylsma.

The ring is beautiful! I especially like the fact that they recognized the two previous Stanley Cup victories, as well as including the teams beaten and series outcomes en route to this third cup.

Please check out some of Intergold's other amazing craftsmanship at their official site. You will see why they specialize in this kind of work! Wow...

The Penguins got the Stanley Cup back from Toronto yesterday with their names freshly engraved. Nice to see that they got Mike Zigomanis on the list of players who were added. He was a big contributor in the face-off dot prior to being injured during the regular season...

One Ring to Lead Them...Penguins Receive Their Championship Hardware

Though the season is right around the corner, the Penguins are squeezing in the last of the Stanley Cup celebrations. They will raise their Stanley Cup Championship banner on Friday night and tonight they received a lasting symbol of their achievement in the form on their Championship Ring.

The players, coaches, hockey staff and executives received their 2009 Stanley Cup championship rings at a private ceremony this evening.

Intergold manufactured the rings and they were designed in consultation with team owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle, general manager Ray Shero and head coach Dan Bylsma.

“The ring is a lasting symbol of the championship effort of our players, coaches, staff and organization,” the team said in a statement. “We want to thank Intergold for an exceptional effort in helping us commemorate the team’s achievement.”

The ring looks amazing and is a great tribute to an unforgettable run that culminated in the team’s first Championship since 1992.

Each 14 karat white and yellow gold ring contains 167 diamonds, totaling approximately 4.50 carats of diamonds and averaging approximately 100 grams of gold. The top of the ring is crowned with a custom-cut black onyx imbedded with a 1.3 carat pear-shaped diamond to create the Penguins logo. The logo is placed on an image of the Stanley Cup, which is sitting on a bed of round diamonds replicating the arena and ice surface.

The ring is further adorned with 12 princess-cut diamonds on each side of the shanks. The title “Stanley Cup Champions” is written along the ring’s left and right outer rim/bezel. The left side of the ring features the player’s name and number as well as a list of the team four playoff series victories. The right side of the ring has the year 2009 split with three Stanley Cups, adorned in diamonds. The two outer Stanley Cups are inscribed on top with 91 and 92, paying homage to the Penguins’ two previous championships.

“Intergold is proud to have crafted the Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup championship rings,” said Miran Armutlu, president and CEO of Intergold. “This ring was one of the most complex rings we have produced to date, requiring 23 separate dies to achieve our end result. It is truly symbolic of one of sport’s ultimate achievements.”

Though these rings aren’t worn as frequently as some jewelry, they serve as a constant reminder of the successes, past, present and future. One glance has to serve as a constant reminder of the work that was put into the Cup victory and the great feeling that surrounded the moment...which hopefully pushes the group to achieve it again and again!

“This is a keepsake,” Sidney Crosby said upon receiving his ring. “The only guys you won it with have them. So you share that. That’s the special part about it. Everyone who did that together will share that forever.”

A representative from the Intergold was nice enough to offer me some high quality photos of the rings. I will have them tomorrow and will post them for your perusal. In the meantime, you can take a look at this beauty here...
