The Flyers captain seemed to take everything in stride after getting clearance from the league that he plays tonight against the SJ Sharks.

No suspension.

Under the rules, the NHL actually got one right this time. I figured they would suspend him just because of the past Flyer history. Had that happened, I would not have flinched because, in FLyerdom, you always expect the suspension.

I asked the Flyers captain whether he felt this would have any carry-over effect in the league office in the future.

“I don’t know,” Richards replied. “The league ruled it was a clean hit. Obviously, the end result, you don’t hope for anything. Nothing comes from it. It’s a clean hit.”
