A common thread at HB among the Flyers' faithful this season was whether former coach John Stevens held his players accountable on the ice.
I always thought that Stevens was too easy on his players, especially, those players who won a Calder Cup under him. I felt he treated the team as if they were "one of the guys" instead of being far tougher on them.
And the fact remains, this current group of Flyers, as a whole, took liberties with Stevens' gentle approach and it ultimately played a part in his firing.
In the days since Peter Laviolette has taken over, the word "accountability" has come up persistently.
The Flyers may have won 6-2 on Tuesday against the Isles, but there were several bad penalties in the game - 9 total - especially in the 2nd period. Laviolette vowed he would hold every player to the fire.
And he did. Today at practice, he stopped it for a bag skate. Every player suffered because of the actions of Scott Hartnell, Danny Briere, and Claude Giroux, each of whom took bad penalties.
It's a new era, boys. You thought Ken Hitchcock was tough (actually, nearly all of these guys didn't play for him)? Laviolette could be tougher.
Here's the players' reaction and Laviolette's from my story on CSNPhilly.com:
