PREVIEW (12:30 AM)
The Flyers (15-16-1) got humiliated by the first-place Penguins (23-10-1) in the road half of the club's home-and-home set. Tonight, the scene shifts to the Wachovia Center. Pittsburgh has won both of the games in the season series so far, including an early season meeting in Philly.
Philly will need improvement across the board simply to avoid getting blown out again. Right now, this Flyers club can't even be counted on to turn in a professional effort on a regular basis, so the team at least needs to make itself tougher to play against. Once that happens, issues such as the club's offensive drought, struggling special teams and lack of discipline can start to be addressed.
The Flyers may have Blair Betts back in the lineup for this game. While he can't single-handedly fix the struggling penalty kill, his return should help in that department as well as strengthening the team's five-on-five checking. I will post lineups later in the day.
