Another tepid effort by the Flyers after a formidable effort the previous game.
We've seen this kind of groundhog day unfolding in Flyerdom before. Kimmo Timonen told me it's been happening for 3 years now.
The Flyers didn't show up against the Rangers and half the crowd didn't show because of snow but this was such an awful display of hockey that Peter Laviolette called his timeout less than 6 minutes into the game to scream at his players.
“This is about making the playoffs,” Laviolette said. “This is about the Philadelphia Flyers playing a brand of hockey that you can be proud of. And I don’t know how anyone could possibly be proud after the first, two periods. It’s completely unacceptable.”
Simon Gagne's presence led to a goal and well, that was all to get excited about. The Flyers' disinterest proves that when the trade embargo ends on Dec. 27, management will have to make a major move.
A number of players says too many guys are playing "individually," and too many players are worried about others and not themselves.
They've already fired the coach and it didn't work. Now it's time to remove a major piece or two and try again. This Flyers' team is going nowhere and they have almost run out of "games in hand."
