BOSTON _ So what will you remember most about the Flyers' first appearance in the Winter Classic?
Will it be the whole atmosphere within Fenway Park?
Will it be the Stealth Bomber that several players said held them in awe?
Will it be Dan Carcillo-Shawn Thornton giving us the first fight ever in such a game?
Will it be Marco Sturm's game-winner in OT?
Or will it be the 6th Bruin on the ice before the OT goal was scored that should have been a penalty long before the play finished?
“It was a great showcase of the game,” Flyer President Peter Luukko told me after the game. “Tough calls made or not made. That’s what it is all about.
“This was one of the great experiences of my career … Our Stanley Cup Final run, that run a couple years ago where we just made it into the playoffs, but as a single event, I can’t think of anything better.”
Said Chris Pronger, “To play in that type of atmosphere, Fenway Park, and everything that surrounds Boston and the city, it was a lot of fun.”
That Stealth Bomber shook the ballpark.
“Man, that Stealth was unbelievable,” said Mark Recchi. “It was amazing. I didn’t know what the heck was coming.”
Chuckles Gormley asked Pronger what memory he will take back with him 10-20 years from now.
“The conditions,” Pronger replied. “You come out and it’s bright and sunny. Then it gets a little overcast and you come out for the third [period] and it’s starting to get a little darker and the lights come into play. It was a little different. It was kinda cool.
“It’s getting dark and like mom’s calling you for dinner and get the shin guards and get home. ”
