In the grand scheme of all things related to hockey, it doesn't mean a helluva lot but Flyers goalie Michael Leighton was named No. 2 NHL Star of the Week for last week's performance.
Leighton went 4-0 with a 1.98 goals-against average and .925 save percentage, as the Flyers set a franchise record with back-to-back, home-and-home sweeps of New Jersey and Montreal.
Leighton has become the Flyers' No. 1 goalie in Ray Emery's absence.
"I am definitely very excited," Leighton said. "This is unexpected. I am very proud of the way things have gone and very proud of my teammates. This week we accomplished a lot with getting four wins and climbed the standings a bit over two really good teams."
Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning was No. 1 star and guess who was third? Yep, Dallas goalie Marty Turco.
And just in case you have not heard ... Jeff Carter was sent home from Vancouver as Ryan Getzlaf was pronounced healthy enough to play for Team Canada.
Something wrong with that. Make a guy fly 3,500 miles and send him back 24 hours later. I never understood why alternates can't stay once they are there.
Almost forgot ... Emery made an appearance in the Flyers dressing room after Saturday's win in Montreal. He had been avoiding reporters for days.
