UPDATE: Michael Leighton told me on a conference call this afternoon that he is going to see a foot/ankle specialist on Thursday.

His goal? He is hoping that the specialist reviews his MRI and tells him that the original diagnosis of an 8-10 week recovery from his sprained ankle could be reduced significantly with rehab.

“I’m going to do as much as I can to make that 8-10 turn into a shorter period of time,” Leighton said. “I’m trying to stay positive.”

DALLAS _ The day the music died.

By now, yawl know that Michael Leighton is done. HE will miss 8-10 weeks with a high ankle sprain that would take the Flyers through 2 playoff rounds - if they made it that far.

I can't think of worse news. Can you?

I asked Mr. Surly (Chris Pronger) at the morning skate whether it was unnerving for the players to know that they have lost their No. 1 (Ray Emery), and now their other No. 1 goalie (Leighton) so close to the playoffs with an undecided stretch run.

“Only if people like yourself [media] want to make something of it,” Pronger told me. “I don’t think it is concerning or worrisome, if you want to call it that. Boosh was brought in here to do a job. He understands his role. It’s for instances like this.

“He’s been a starting goalie before in the league and has played very well in the league and obviously we feel comfortable with him in the net.”

What are the chances the Flyers make the playoffs? I say, they are still in.

What are the chances they go more than a round? I say, slim, right now unless they get a favorable matchup and Boucher looks like he did way back early in the season.

What do you think?
