Paul Holmgren told me today he has no interest in Antti Niemi.
As much as the Flyers need to upgrade in goal, I don't think this is the answer. Niemi was only slightly better than Michael Leighton in the Stanley Cup Final.
I thought from the beginning, going after E. Nabokov or M. Turco made sense given the Flyers situation: trying to bide time for one of 3 kids to emerge w/in a year or two as the next No. 1 in the organization.
That would be either Sergei Bobrovsky, Joacim Eriksson or Adam Morrison. One of them figures to make the cut. I'm optimistic that the Flyers had good prospects at this position and they need a veteran here beside Leighton.
Lotta FLyer fans didn't like Nabby or Turco as an option. Is Niemi the answer? If so, what do you do w/all these prospects?
Al Morganti agrees w/me but adds, Leighton was better than Niemi in the Final.
Suffice to say, neither of these guys were good in goal in the Final.
