Really had to be impressed with the enormous - not sure that describes it - turnout at Skate Zone on the 1st day of Flyers' training camp.

More than 1,800 fans. That's larger than last year's crowd.

Bill Guerin was impressed.

"I’m happy to see a lot of orange out there today,” Guerin said.

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette said the turnout was "awesome."

"It was packed, it was great,” Laviolette said. “I think there’s a good buzz on here …”

A few weeks ago, I suggested one of the ways that Guerin find himself on this team without losing a player off the roster would be if either Blair Betts or Ville Leino weren't ready to go.

Guess what? They are still skating and participating in drills but ... wearing yellow jerseys which means NO contact. Leino told me that he and Betts will continue the "no contact" sessions for one more week.

If one of them isn't ready to go at end of camp, I could see them going on IR and Guerin gets signed. The only other way Guerin could make it is to run someone off the roster or force a trade.

Guerin replaced Leino on Danny Briere's line with Scott Hartnell.

“I feel great, I try to take of myself now in my older years,” Guerin said. “A lot of young guys around to keep me feeling and thinking young.”

Impressive start for James van Riemsdyk, on Jeff Carter's line with Nikolai Zherdev.
