Does it get any better than this?

Tonight is my wife's "Girls Night Out" where she goes out with her friends to dinner and I stay home and watch the kids. But as you all in Canada say, "no worries," because I will have the Center Ice Package going on the big TV, and a TIVO full of Doras, Diegos, and Wonder Pets going on the small TV. (best idea I ever had was to put two TVs in the living room...trust me. I know it feels ridiculous and indulgent, but trust me!)

There is nothing like opening day of the hockey season. Right now as I type this players are lacing it up for their first "day of game skates" and fans everywhere are watching the clocks at school, home, or work. I know for some of you this day comes tomorrow of course. (I thought last year getting all 30 teams playing on opening night was great...but I am sure it is a scheduling nightmare.)

Anyway, what do you do to get ready for the big game?

Is there a jersey you have to wear? A food you eat? A place you meet your friends? People you get together with?

I always go to the Flyers home opener with my wife. We go to dinner in the city, and we go out afterwards. She used to wear her #2 Adam Burt jersey. (looong story there)

Hockey is a very superstitious sport for many of us and I'd like to post some of the best submissions today. Email me what you do to [email protected]. Include your first name and your city.

In other news...

What a great time was had by all last night in the first annual XM RADIO/ Hockeybuzz.com Pool. Alot of people scoffed at me for using my first round pick to take my one rookie required. I took Gilbert Brule, who looks pretty unstoppable and looks to be playing on a top line. I figured there were enough stars to go around since there were only 12 teams.

My Five Forwards: LeCavalier, St. Louis, Horcoff, Ryan Symth and Straka

My Two D: Lidstrom and Timmonen (the new Preds Captain)

My Goalie: Gerber

and my enforcer: the mighty Sean Avery

The Draft went off without incident save Sunaya's protest of drawing the first ping pong ball which at the last second was determined to be the 12th pick overall for dramatic reasons. Sunaya was a lot of fun at the draft, taking a team comprised of former OHLers.

XM and Joe Thistel were kind enough to host the draft and after the draft, 12 callers called in and each picked a team of the 12. The winner of the draft's caller will win a signed Phil Esposito jersey from XM.

Shortly our incredibly underpaid fantasy designer will be putting up the XM pool in our fantasy section for all to track and have fun with.

So anyway, send in your opening day traditions
