UPDATE:

Matt Walker will have a torn labrum in his right hip repaired WED in Nashville, Tenn., by noted doctor Thomas Byrd.

He will miss 10-12 weeks.

Lotta you been carping about Dan Carcillo, who looks lost on the ice these days.

I caught up to "Car Bomb" as the players call him, on Monday, and he seemed uncertain how he is gonna change things for himself other than the usual, "hard work" stuff.

I agree that he is not the answer, right now, on the top line. And that's something else, too. The Richards-Carter unit is not the top line. Danny Briere's line is better and has been better just like it was all through the playoffs last season.

As I Tweeted earlier this afternoon, Flyer defenseman Matt Walker may need hip surgery.

General manager Paul Holmgren met with the media today and said the club is awaiting another opinion from a doctor and look to make a decision on surgery by the end of weekend.

"We’re still not sure what direction we’re going here,” Holmgren said.

Walker would miss "significant" time, he said.

Right now, Walker is the 8th man on the blue line, but his injury has dropped him below Oskar Bartulis, who is the 7th D.
