Ugly, awful, terrible, ouch, UGH! None of these seem to quite cut it... In a game that could only be described incredibly disappointing, or gut-wrenching, or pathetic. The Nashville Predators did the following…
- Took six consecutive penalties resulting in three different 5 on 3 opportunities.
- Allowed four power play goals, including two 5-on-3 goals within :59 of each other.
- Gave up two three goal leads.
All that happened within a twelve minute span in the second period… after jumping all over a team that had lost eight straight games, after scoring three in the first period, after applying what should have been a heart-stealing, throat-stomping short-handed goal a little more than four minutes into the second.
All the things done right in the first 12 minutes of the game, allowed to go south, and allowed to go south in a most distressing way. This team did not show any kind of resiliency after the Leafs got their second goal. Good friend of the site Dirk Hoag (the Forechecker) was dead on in his tweet last night before the second period saying “The next period will be a test of focus, can’t give the Leafs a softie and make this close.” Bang on it there…
The team travels to Montreal today and gets the unenviable task of trying to get back on track against the hottest goaltender in the league fresh off smoking the top team in the Eastern Conference. Things get no easier from here.
