MINI-PREVIEW 8:15 AM EST
Coming off a frustrating shootout loss to Calgary in yesterday's Black Friday matinee, the Flyers (15-6-3) are right back in action this afternoon, traveling up the NJ Turnpike to take on the New Jersey Devils (7-14-2). It has been a tough season so far for the Devils, but New Jersey has played a little better of late, winning three in a row at home and two of their last three overall. However, the club just got shut out, 2-0, by the woeful New York Islanders.
This is getting to sound like a broken record: The top priority for Philly right now is to get the struggling powerplay back on track. Above all else, it was the team's inability to score on the man advantage in regulation -- not to mention giving up a shorthanded goal -- that resulted in yesterday's game against Calgary going to OT. Today's
Daily Drop at Versus.com looks at the controversial finish to the game yesterday.
For the Flyers, the most heartening trend over the last few games has been James van Riemsdyk's three-game goal streak. You could see him getting close to breaking through in the two games leading up to his winning tally against Montreal and subsequent goals against Minnesota and Calgary. He needs to keep forechecking hard and staying involved down low in the zone, and good things will continue to happen for him.
The Flyers can't concern themselves with the lost point yesterday. With the way New Jersey has played this season -- and remains in disarray -- it is a team Philly should beat.
