It’s Christmas Eve and I figured I’d get in a few last requests for Santa before he gets to Tennessee later tonight.
- For the Nashville Predators… an early wake-up call. To help break the habit they have developed of sleepy first periods. And while I’m asking… they also need some health, some goals, and a power play… and a first round playoff series win.
- For Vanderbilt University… a football coach that stays for awhile, if he wins so much the better.
- For the Tennessee Titans… a quarterback, and a defense, and a little character…
- For the traditional hockey media… an understanding that hockey exists and can be successful south of Detroit. Oh… who am I kidding, even Santa can’t help these guys get by their bias (but a big shout out to Travis Yost for his kind comments in his piece today.)
- For the columnists at the Tennessean… directions to Bridgestone Arena. They obviously need them because you never see either of them there. I’m just funny that way, but I thought that part of a columnist’s job was to comment on all sports, not just the ones they like.
And while I’m on the subject…
- For the editors at the Tennessean… a new target for their subtle scorn. These editors feel the need to insert the word “announced” whenever the attendance at a hockey game is reported. Funny… I never see that in articles about the Titans, or Vanderbilt football, or Vanderbilt basketball, or UT football, or UT basketball, or high school wrestling or community bowling. Get over it guys… ALL attendance is “announced” either use the word for everyone or don’t use it at all…
Travel safe Santa, we’ll see you later today… and don’t forget that new microphone, and you can bring a little snow with you too? I haven’t seen a White Christmas in quite a few years.

I am very proud to announce that SlapShot Radio goes international... at least for this weekend...
SlapShot Radio has been picked up by Sirius/XM Satellite Radio's NHL Home Ice Channel as part of their Christmas programming rotation... A hockey radio show, originating from Nashville, on Sirius/XM, who would imagine?
The channel is airing our "Salute to Slap Shot" show from November, featuring the author of "The Making of Slap Shot" Jonathon Jackson, Steve "Hanson" Carlson, and actor Jerry Houser aka Dave "Killer" Carlson. We are very excited to get this kind of wide hockey audience for our show.
The show will air at the following times on Sirius Channel 208, XM Channel 204...
Friday 12/24 - 3pm Eastern / 2pm Central
Saturday 12/25 - 6am Eastern / 5am Central
Saturday 12/25 - 11pm Eastern / 10pm Central
Sunday 12/26 - 2pm Eastern / 1pm Central
If you haven’t checked out the show… tune in!

Random Notes
- Last night’s results reshuffled the deck in the West, Nashville drops to 8th.
- Both Steve Sullivan and Martin Erat went down last night, no word on either’s condition. Keep an eye out for callups from Milwaukee…
- World Juniors drop the puck on Sunday in Buffalo… US games will be carried on the NHL Network. I’ve noticed that everyone is heaping expectations on Team USA as the defending champions, many calling them the overwhelming favorite. I'm not sure I buy that ploy, but it should be a very good tournament.
-The NHL and HBO really struck lucky in last night’s Washington/Pittsburgh game… a shootout win for the Pens will make next week’s 24/7 very interesting.
- I have to give several people credit for a great tweet I saw yesterday regarding the coaching change in NJ. They read something to the effect of “John MacLean hasn’t had this bad a day so close to Christmas since Hans Gruber took over the Nakatomi Tower.”
- The NHL has a live Web Cam on the construction of the rink at Heinz Field.
