MINI-PREVIEW 9 AM EST
The Flyers (28-11-5) conclude their long road trip today when they pay a visit to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Rangers (26-17-3). This is the third of six meetings between the teams this season, with the Flyers winning by a pair of 4-1 scores. Both clubs have been busy of late. The Flyers are playing for the fourth time in six days, while the Rangers are playing on back-to-back nights and third time in four days.
The Blueshirts are coming off a 3-2 loss in Montreal last night but have won 6 of their last 10 games. The biggest reason: goalie Henrik Lundqvist has been a brick wall for the last two-plus months. In his last 20 starts, the Swedish star has posted a 1.77 goals against average and .937 save percentage and boasts a 12-6-2 record.
Meanwhile, the Danny Briere line has been red-hot for the Flyers. All three line members have averaged over a point-per-game in the last six games. Briere has scored goals in five straight games. Believe it or not, the last Flyer to accomplish that feat was Geoff Sanderson during the disastrous 2006-07 season.
With a victory today, the Flyers will complete their junket of 9 of 10 games on the road with a 7-3-0 record. Over the current span, they have leapfrogged Pittsburgh in the standings to reclaim first place in the Atlantic Division. With 61 points, Philly is currently one point ahead of the Penguins and 6 points ahead of the Rangers with two games in hand over both clubs.
