Honoring Roddy

It continues to amaze me how many fans in Flyerdom still hate Eric Lindros, to the point that they can't see rationally.

You can't explain why Rod Brind'Amour was traded without explaining the circumstances that led up to the trade because of Eric Lindros' health.

Flyer fans are fanatical. To the point that they often can't think rationally, judging from some of the comment I see on-line whenever Lindros name is used.

Anyway, were it not for a concussion to Lindros back in '99-00, Roddy may never have been traded; Keith Primeau may never have been a Flyer; and Carolina might never have won a Stanley Cup.

We were talking about Roddy last night at dinner. I think he revolutionized the thinking of an entire next generation of players when it came to fitness training and influenced a number of athletic trainers to incorporate parts of his program in their off-season and in-season routines.

I agree with Peter Laviolette that Roddy will be a Hall of Famer someday. And whenever I hear his name, I think two things:

1) how happy I was he finally got his Stanley Cup

2) that I prefer to remember him as a Flyer and not a Cane

Tonight here in Raleigh, they will retire Roddy's No. 17. That's why the game time has been pushed back to 8 pm.

Rod Brind'Amour deserves. I'm looking forward to it, as are Flyer fans I would imagine.
